There has been an increase in the number of romantic anime being released. A recently released romance anime named “After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway” has caught the attention of many anime fans. So, if you are looking forward to watching this anime and cannot decide if it is worth it or not, then fear not. We are going to review the anime “After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway”.
Release Date
After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway was released in the spring season of 2021. The duration of the anime was from 5th April to 28th June. The anime is based on a light novel written by Shimesaba and Illustrated by booota.

Plot Summary
The anime’s main plot revolves around a middle-aged salary worker and a sudden change in his life due to a runaway high school girl he took in.
Yoshida is the main protagonist of the anime who is a middle-aged salary worker in an IT company. He is leading a normal loner life in Tokyo, he develops a crush on his boss, Airi Gotou, and is looking for a chance to ask her out. Even though he succeeds in securing a date with her but ends up getting rejected by her.
On his way home, he meets Sayu Ogiwara, a runaway high school girl who asks him to let her stay in his house, and in return, she would let him have his way with her body. The drunk Yoshida was surprised but he refuses her offer due to his strong sense of values.
However, Sayu then asks him to let her stay for free to which he somehow agrees, and their life together begins.
Review
The whole anime approaches the romance genre with a unique style which is quite interesting and enjoyable. It deals with the traumas experienced by the high school students of this generation. The very fact that forced Sayu to leave her hometown is quite tragic considering her age in which a person is allowed to live life to its fullest, but this was not the case with her.
A dreadful incident causes Sayu to leave her hometown. She travels from Hokkaido to Tokyo on an insane journey. A lot of stuff happened in her journey. The writers have done an incredible job crafting the story around Sayu that makes her relatable and likable.
Sayu’s fateful encounter with Yoshida changes her whole life as it was the first time Sayu experienced kindness. The fact that someone took her in without something in return is quite surprising for Sayu as well as for us.
The unique relationship that develops between Yoshida and Sayu cannot be described as simply love but something beyond it. This very relationship transcends the normal parameters of a romantic relationship. The relationship is fleshed out properly in the anime.
The character development is another interesting aspect of this anime as the interaction of Yoshida with Sayu changed the lives of both. In some way, both of them were craving unconditional love and support which they managed to achieve by living together.
The support from characters like Airi Gotou (Yoshida’s Boss), Asami Yuuki (Sayu Coworker), Yuzuha Mishima (Yoshida’s disciple), Hashimoto (Yoshida’s Friend), and Issa Ogiwara (Sayu’s Brother) help Sayu and Yoshida to solve the complexities and problem that they face. All of these characters are very likable.
Spoiler:
The concept of letting go of a beloved one for his/her betterment is well executed in this anime. It was established from the beginning that Yoshida and Sayu cannot live together forever because of the age boundaries but still, it is difficult for Yoshida to let go of Sayu and vice versa but they manage to do so with the promise to reunite together in the future which is the most beautiful aspect of this anime.
Conclusion
In short, all I can say is that this anime is worth watching because of its well-crafted storyline, amazing characters, and beautiful animation. The storyline will keep you engaged till the very last episode.
The anime has a satisfying finale as well which is the cherry on top. It is one of the better drama/romance anime of 2021 so far.
