A great show for a great cause. With a good-looking card and all the positive PR they got for donating the shows money to victims of gun violence, the pressure was on AEW to deliver a fantastic PPV.

They (mostly) delivered, in what was yet another strong showing for the AEW brand. Here are 5 things we learned from AEW Fight for the Fallen.

    1. They’re setting up Britt Baker and Bea Priestley to be the stars of the women’s division

One of the more surprisingly good matches saw Bea Priestly and Shoko Nakajima take on the team of Britt Baker and Riho. It was a very good match, in which all 4 women had the chance to showcase their abilities. However, it became obvious that AEW is setting up Britt and Bea to become the top stars of AEW’s female division.

They were wisely kept apart throughout the match, and any interaction they had was short and brief. In their short time together though, it was obvious that they had chemistry with one other, which bodes well for their inevitable match down the line.

After Shoko picked up the win for her team, Bea and Britt had a brief pull-apart brawl, with the crowd chanting ‘Let them fight’ after they were separated. They will let them fight, probably at All Out, so keeping them apart here was a wise move.

    2. Darby Allin is going to be a huge star

    https://twitter.com/ITVWrestling/status/1150200162633101313?s=20

The main show kicked off with 6-man action, as Joey Janela, Jimmy Havoc and Darby Allin took on the team of MJF, Shawn Spears and Sammy Guevara. Obviously, with Janela, Havoc and Allin all on one team, things got violent very quickly. I haven’t even mentioned the issues Spears and MJF have with each other following Spears attack on MJF’s mentor Cody Rhodes at Fyter Fest. In such a multi-layered match, one thing stood out: Darby Allin is going to be a huge star for AEW.

The crowd went nuts for him throughout. When he first got tagged in, the crowd went berserk, with Allin’s name ringing throughout the arena. When he was involved, he was the star of the match. He may have taken the pin from Spears (likely setting up a Spears vs Cody Rhodes match at All Out), but the loss didn’t hurt him that much, because it was part of a much bigger story. Remember Darby Allin’s name, because soon, the whole world will see how good he is.

    3. Tag Team matches are still the highlight of AEW so far

    https://twitter.com/ITVWrestling/status/1150658756054835206?s=20

Bar maybe 2 matches (Cody vs Dustin and Cody vs Darby Allin), AEW’s tag matches have usually been the highlight of the show. Fight for the Fallen was no exception, with the triple threat tag match, the SCU vs Lucha Bros match and the main event the highlights of the show.

The triple threat tag match was low-key amazing. AEW has managed to get a dinosaur who does flips (hence his name: Luchasaurus) over, with Luchasaurus chants filling the arena throughout. If AEW can get that over, you know they’re doing well.

Then you have SCU/Lucha Bros and Young Bucks/Cody and Dustin Rhodes. All 4 teams veterans of tag team matches and it showed, with those two matches probably being the matches of the night. Obviously, the 8 men involved in these tag matches are all brilliant wrestlers, but the triple threat matches had wrestlers that are mainly unknown by wrestling audiences, yet they delivered a fantastic performance.

AEW has said in the past that they’re going to put great focus into tag team wrestling. Based on what we’ve seen so far, they’re on the right track.

    4. The Lucha Bros vs Young Bucks Ladder match at All Out is going to be amazing

    https://twitter.com/ITVWrestling/status/1150228733384679424?s=20

After defeating SCU, Pentagon and Fenix then attacked SCU with a ladder, then set it up in the middle of the ring, climbed it and challenged the Young Bucks to a Ladder match at All Out in August. Whilst we don’t know what will be on the line yet, one thing is for sure: this match is going to be amazing.

The Young Bucks are no stranger to ladder matches, having put on some classic ladder matches against the likes of The Briscoes, SCU and The Hardy’s. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time the Lucha Bros have been in a Ladder match as a tag team. The Young Bucks have the tactical advantage then, but you can’t count the Lucha Bros out, because they are an amazing team.

Because its these two teams, its all but guaranteed that there’s going to be some death-defying stunts and moments. The Young Bucks will no doubt put themselves through hell trying to win the match, and Fenix will probably jump off an insanely high ladder to do something both stupid and amazing.

    5. Chris Jericho MUST beat Hangman Page at All Out

    https://twitter.com/ITVWrestling/status/1150238732429266944?s=20

A couple of months ago, I wrote an article saying that Chris Jericho must win the AEW World Heavyweight Champion on AEW’s debut TV show on TNT. Now that we know that Page vs Jericho at All Out will decide the inaugural AEW World Champ, my answer remains the same: Jericho MUST win.

There are too many positives to Jericho winning the belt. One, it allows the Jericho/Page feud to rumble on to AEW’s TV show. Two, it allows Jericho to cut more egotistical promos saying he’s to thank for AEW becoming a success. Three, it allows Hangman Page to chase a bit more before finally prevailing somewhere down the line. Finally, it will attract lapsed WWE viewers to AEW’s product, because they’ll see that a former WWE Champion is an AEW Champion, and they’ll want to see what happens next.

Short term, it’ll give AEW greater exposure on the world stage if one of the greatest wrestlers of all time is their first champion. Long term, it allows AEW the chance to build up some credible challengers to Jericho’s title. Not just Page, but also Jon Moxley, Kenny Omega, Cody and a couple more who could be stars if AEW builds them up the right way.
