SONIC ORIGINS: ORIGINAL STORY CONTINUES: The Classic mode will show the game in its original resolution and have limited lives as it did in the 16-bit era. Sega has officially announced Sonic Origins and confirmed a June release date.
The Anniversary mode will give the player infinite lives and will present the game in a new widescreen resolution. Origins will also include missions, which will allow players to collect coins. These can then be spent in the game’s Museum mode, to unlock new content, challenges and Special Stages.

The listing on the PlayStation app also appears to imply that a physical release is planned, as it makes reference to owners of a PS4 disc being able to upgrade to the PS5 version.
Sonic Origins is a retro compilation that includes the following games:
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2
- Sonic CD
- Sonic the Hedgehog 3
- Sonic & Knuckles
The compilation was originally announced in May 2021 during Sega‘s Sonic Central presentation, but new information had been thin on the ground until this week when the game was given a rating in South Korea.
Sega announced that Sonic Origins will launch on June 23 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It will retail for $40 for the base version.
