THE WRESTLING WORLD REJOICED WHEN THEY HEARD THAT KURT ANGLE HAD FINALLY MENDED FENCES WITH VINCE MCMAHON.

After 11 years, Angle is finally home. It came as a huge shock to the world when it was announced that Kurt Angle would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.  It is unusual for a Wrestler to be inducted prior to retirement and Angle has given no indication that he plans to retire so rumours are fueling we’ll see him in the ring again soon.

If you’re a wrestling fan, you simply love Kurt Angle. Don’t kid yourself. We all chanted “You suck!” to his theme but we all knew he was the best. Angle signed for the WWE in 1996 shortly after winning his prestigious Olympic Gold Medal. He signed an 8 year deal with the company. He joined at the perfect time, during the Attitude Era. Surrounded by talent such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, The Undertaker, Kane, The Rock, Shawn Michaels (although they didn’t fight until the mid 00’s) and many more. Angle rose to the top and ultimately set the bar.

Angle left WWE in 2006 citing exhaustion, injuries and addiction problems. A month after leaving WWE he debuted for TNA Wrestling where he continued his career for the next decade. Some fans, including myself felt there was no way back for him. Never say never though right?

It’s true, it’s damn true! Angle returned to the WWE at Wrestlemania 33 as he headlined the Hall of Fame class of 2017. Angle stated WWE had “big plans” for him after he was inducted and immeadiately he was appointed RAW General Manager shortly after.

It seems inevitable we will get to see Kurt Angle in the ring at least one more time. He’s one of the greatest and isn’t “done” by any stretch. He takes good care of himself and has shown time and time again, he’s still got it. So who is the dream opponent for Kurt Angle?

    JOHN CENA

John Cena and Kurt Angle have a lot of history. Kurt originally gave John the opportunity in an open challenge back in 2002 and ultimately paved the way for “The Champ” to become the new face of the company. It was fitting for Cena to induct Kurt into the Hall of Fame and I think a match between them would be well received.

    ROMAN REIGNS

Whilst Roman Reigns is still currently butting heads with fans on his never-ending-push to stardom, Reigns is “the guy” whether you like him or not. He’s the big dog, it’s his yard. You know the deal. Getting one over on Kurt Angle would help solidify Reigns as the next big thing. Whilst you would expect Angle to win his returning match, Reigns defied the odds and beat the Undertaker at WrestleMania 33 and is fast approaching the Universal Championship. Reigns as a heel up against Angle has great potential.

    TRIPLE H

The villainous Authority are due a comeback after Triple H’s lapse of concentration resulted in sending his wife and Commissioner of RAW, Stephanie McMahon through a table at WrestleMania 33. They have been off-screen ever since. I personally enjoy Triple H and although I think he hasn’t put on a good match in a long time. I think Angle/HHH would be really exciting.

    BROCK LESNAR

Again, great history between these two. Feud and Match of the year in 2003. Brock has grown and become so much more than “The Next Big Thing” we saw back in 2002-2004. He is an absolute wrecking-ball. It would be interesting to see if Angle could tame The Beast.

    AJ STYLES

This is the obvious one and for me, the one I would like to see the most. These guys are phenomenal (no pun intended). They are arguably the greatest workers in the business and if you’ve seen any of their previous matches, they are superb to watch. It has WrestleMania main event written all over it.

The list is endless. Seth Rollins, Finn Balór, Samoa Joe, Kevin Owens, Bray Wyatt, Shinsuke Nakamura, Dean Ambrose, The Rock,  I could go on.

I think a good way to re-introduce Kurt would be for him to Captain Team RAW at Survivor Series in the traditional 5-on-5 elimination match with Daniel Bryan on Team SmackDownLIVE. A bit far-fetched but we can dream, huh?

Lets not get too excited on Angle’s potential in-ring return and lets talk about the “now”.

After weeks of speculation surrounding Kurt Angle and rumours that could potentially damage his career.

This felt very lacklustre to me and I felt there were better options that could have been used. There was talk of Dixie Carter coming to RAW. An affair with Steph and then a feud with Hunter. WWE did what they do best and of course, delivered with the shock factor…and then slapped you in the face with a bolt of confusion.

It was revealed that Jason Jordan is his son. Angle came clean on RAW and Jordan officially moved from the SmackDownLIVE brand to RAW, thus disbanding American Alpha.

I’m still yet to decide what I think of this or where it’s going. I enjoyed American Alpha and I think splitting them up was a bad decision. I don’t really understand where this has come from or why Jason Jordan has been chosen. It’s a bit early to judge how Jordan will fair in his singles run. He’s had a pretty slow start but I think we have to give him a chance and hope we can see something exciting unfold. I think Jordan has potential but ultimately the thing American Alpha lacked the most was charisma. Something he will desperately need to improve on if he’s going to make it.

I don’t want to see Jordan mimicking Kurt Angle and copying his moves or anything like that. I want to see him come into his own with guidance from Kurt. I would be interested in Angle and Jordan teaming up for a tag team match but, I don’t feel like this can last and will fizzle out. I just don’t think this angle has any real longevity.
