We’re changing the way we do things at TWM News, and we’d love for you to be a part of it.
Today, we’re making some changes to the way we bring you wrestling news, articles and other content at TWM News. In the ever-changing world of social media, we feel it’s necessary to sometimes re-evaluate where we are and where we’re going.
We’re against clickbait, false rumours, hearsay and outright speculation of any kind. Which is why you’ll never see such stories on our website.
But we’re taking that one step further. Why even the need to visit our website at all if we can tell you the news on our social media accounts? From now on, if there’s really not much to a story other than a line or two, and it can be told in a short social media post that fits on Twitter, then we won’t even link you to our site. We’ll just tell you there.
Some stories will need a full report and structured story, and those will be linked to our site. That way you know if you see a link on our accounts, it’s a story that’s worth reading.
Our goal as a wrestling news site is to give you news that matters. We’ll never link to a “story” that’s simply a tweet from a wrestler.
Our readers have told us they like to read stories that genuinely inform them and aren’t misleading in any way. We’ve heard from people that they specifically want to see fewer stories with clickbait headlines or link titles in all types of journalism, not just wrestling.
You know the sort. Headlines that intentionally leave out critical information and use a compelling image, forcing you to click the link to find out what it is. Then when you do, it’s completely misleading.
Take this one for example (which is a 100% legitimate news headline we came across)
TOTAL DIVAS STAR AND FORMER DIVAS CHAMPION SUSPENDED WHILE REHABBING NECK INJURY
It’s informative, and unless you REALLY want to know the circumstances behind it, is pretty much the whole story and doesn’t give you much reason to click. That’s why they don’t do it.
This type of headline and photo combination is rife in the world of pro wrestling journalism, and we’re putting an end to it. Words like “reportedly”, “allegedly” and “apparently” in headlines are dead giveaways that the news story has no foundation whatsoever.
TWM News is informative. We don’t care if you click on our website or not. We care that you’re informed by what we do, and hopefully you’ll tell more people about us, and they’ll follow us too.
You see, most wrestling news websites rely on the advertising income of their sponsors, which is why they utilise clickbait, and misleading headlines to force you onto their pages earning them some, albeit small revenue in the process. If enough people “bite”, that ad revenue starts to pile up.
We are not one of those sites. There are no intrusive adverts on our site, and we do not live off of ad revenue. Our duty is to inform, not earn. The little money we do make covers the costs of running the site, and that’s it.
We might post less often than some of the other “news” sites out there, but when we do, you know it’s worth reading.
We’re TWM News, and we’re doing things the right way.
