The final WWE pay per view of 2019 took place last night, but that means that all the attention from the wrestling fans around the world now looks ahead to the Royal Rumble at the end of January.
That event will signal the beginning of the road to WrestleMania, where plans finally start to fall into place and we can see which superstars will be competing in the headline bouts.
The women headlined last year’s show for the first time in the history of the WWE. Becky Lynch won the gold in a triple threat match against Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair. We could see another bout between these women, but there may be a returning star that is projected directly into the biggest show of the year’s main event.
Seth Rollins vs CM Punk

This is the match that the whole world has been talking about for months’ now. CM Punk made his return to WWE television on WWE Backstage, and while he is currently employed by Fox, there is a chance that the bridges could be rebuilt in time for a match at the show of shows. Rollins was quick to comment on Punk’s return and immediately tweeted out that he wanted to fight him.
Every WWE fan would be interested in seeing Punk make his return to in-ring action, but whether Vince McMahon and the straight edge superstar have been able to make up remains in doubt.
There will be a long list of potential superstars that could face Punk in a dream match at WrestleMania, but Rollins could be at the head of that cue, like a horse racing to be a Kentucky Derby contender.
The Fiend vs Roman Reigns

The favorite to win the upcoming Royal Rumble is Roman Reigns, which means this match could be one of the most likely avenues that the company takes. It’s unlikely that we will have to see Reigns vs Brock Lesnar again after seeing it a handful of times over the past couple of years.
Bray Wyatt’s re-invented character has been one of the best additions to the WWE this year, and this could be the main event that Wyatt’s creativity deserves.
Fans may not be thrilled to see Reigns in another main event of Mania, and they may revolt against the superstar should he win the title again in the main event. These two could put on a great story, with The Fiend looking unstoppable since his arrival on weekly television.
Reigns has been involved in a feud with Baron Corbin for much of 2019, and this would prove to be a different direction for his character. It could be a great match, but fans desire to see this may be in question.
Shayna Baszler vs Becky Lynch

The seeds were set for this matchup when the two clashed along with Bayley at the most recent Survivor Series. Baszler beat the two former NXT superstars by submitting Bayley with the Kirifuda Clutch. However, the action didn’t stop there as Lynch retaliated by putting the NXT Women’s champion through the announce table after the match had ended.
There is already a lot of history between these two, and their way of words ensured that this triple threat was the main event at the Survivor Series PPV. Baszler’s friendship with Rousey also ensures that this could be a strong follow up from the main event of last year’s event, and they could put on an excellent main event to close the show.
There is also the prospect of a big tag match between the past NXT women on the main roster now and the Four Horsewomen that includes both Baszler and Rousey. There are a lot of options for the WWE, and fans will welcome any of them.
