WWE Double Hall of Famer Ric Flair has obtained his WWE release today, presumably by request of Ric Flair himself. The release follows a string from the company recently, with Bray Wyatt being released due to budget cuts this weekend.
Ric Flair, now 72, hasn’t wrestled since 2011 in a losing effort against Sting on an Impact Wrestling TV Show. His last match with the WWE was the infamous retirement match with Shawn Michaels way back in 2008 at WrestleMania 24.
This was Ric Flairs 2nd run with WWE in the 2000s, originally joining in 2001 post-WCW for 7 years through his retirement match against Shawn Michaels in 2008. Flair would leave the WWE in 2008 and worked for Hulk Hogan’s ill-fated Australian Hulkamania Tour and with Impact Wrestling until he re-joined the WWE in late 2012 (After some negotiating with TNA/Impact) when Christian returned to Impact for their Hall of Fame.
His last appearance with the WWE was back in February, as part of the Lacey Evans Pregnancy angle but it was scraped. Flair worked plenty of shows as an on-screen personality during the ThunderDome era of WWE too but was rarely physical with anybody.
