On Wednesday Paul Wight, No More BS!, made his anticipated debut in AEW. He will be acting as a commentator for the AEW Dark: Elevation show. Upon making his debut in AEW Wight stated that he will be taking his commentating role very seriously. Part of his job as a commentator will be staying on top of breaking news and boy did he start with a bang. Wight stated that this Sunday at Revolution AEW would be signing a mystery talent that is, “Hall of Fame worthy, but it’s not who you think.”

This statement by Wight has set the wrestling world on fire with speculation as to who the mystery signing will be. He had dropped a few hints in his interview but it was vague enough that it could apply to hundreds of wrestlers all over the world. Could it be someone from WWE? Or could AEW go to the far east to sign one of their biggest stars? Let’s take a look at some of the possible mystery signings and what they bring to the table.

    Kazuchika Okada

Okada has been one of the biggest names in the wrestling world over the past ten years. Some may not be familiar with his work but we can chalk that up to a North American bias.

If you look at his overall body of work Okada is, without a doubt, one of the best wrestlers in the world. His matches with Kenny Omega have become a thing of legend in wrestling. Their trilogy of matches is the best series of contests in the past decade and has received very high praise from Dave Meltzer.

    Kazuchika Okada

Okada also has a great deal of history with Chris Jericho over their battles in NJPW. Again, the two men tore the house down whenever they were in the ring together.

Based on his work in New Japan alone he will be getting a Hall of Fame call from some organization around the world so he does fit that bill. He also has a history with several wrestlers on the AEW roster so there would be some mouth-watering feuds ready to go.

Lastly, AEW has already forged a partnership with NJPW and it is reported that Okada will be making an appearance sooner rather than later. What better way than to have him be the mystery signing for AEW.

    CM Punk

Punk may be the low-hanging fruit anytime a surprise is advertised but a man can dream, can’t he?

CM Punk has bounced around a lot of different projects since walking out on the WWE in 2014. He has been in movies, television and even appeared back on WWE satellite programming.

    CM Punk | WWE

It is no doubt that he has compiled an impressive enough resume to be considered worthy of a Hall of fame nod, so he does fit that part of Wight’s statement. Punk is also, still, one of the biggest names in the wrestling industry and he would fit the bill of a huge star.

One thing working against this prediction is Wight saying that it will not be who you think, and frankly CM Punk is always who people think. Still, it would be a massive mark-out moment for us all if CM Punk were to be announced come Sunday.

    Brock Lesnar

Until any news breaks about what Lesnar’s next move is, he will always be talked about when it comes to surprises.

Lesnar is one of the biggest draws in wrestling history. The WWE has always given him a truckload of money and rightfully so. Regardless of how people feel about his booking Lesnar is a draw and a proven rating booster. If he were to be the surprise that Wight is talking about he would fit the description of a huge star.

    Brock Lesnar | WWE

There is also only a handful of wrestlers on the AEW roster who have any kind of history with the Beast and there are some tantalizing matchups there. Who wouldn’t want to see Lesnar go up against Kenny Omega or Luchasaurus?

    Kurt Angle

The rumour of Kurt Angle being the mystery signing this Sunday has been gaining a lot of steam with the IWC that past 24 hours.

Angle does fit the description of what Wight was talking about this past Wednesday. He has been inducted in multiple wrestling Hall of Fames, both professional and amateur. He is also still a huge star in the wrestling world and a very recognizable name.

It is also well known that Angle was not the least bit impressed with how his WWE tenure ended. Jobbing out to Baron Corbin at Wrestlemania was an insult to the man who has given so much to the WWE and Angle must be looking for a better swan song. AEW can provide him with that opportunity.

    Ronda Rousey

Shockingly, Rousey’s name is not being thrown out there nearly as much as it should be. Nearing the end of her WWE run she was not happy with how she was being received by the fans. This may have caused her to prematurely walk away from what was a promising WWE career.

AEW could provide her with a better platform than the WWE did. Rousey would also be a huge shot in the arm to the women’s division. The division has been getting legs the past few months and having a huge star like Rousey could be the thing needed to put it over the top.

    Ronda Rousey | WWE

While Wight said that this mystery signing would be Hall of Fame worthy, he may not have necessarily meant a wrestling Hall of Fame. Rousey is a part of the UFC Hall of Fame and this would tick that box as well.

For my money, I am going to go out on a limb and say that Ronda Rousey will be the announced mystery signing come Sunday. You heard it here first!
