This past Monday, WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley announced the creation of the 24/7 Championship.

Since then we’ve had several champions including Titus O’Neil, Robert Roode and R-Truth. But why was this title introduced?

According to the Wrestling Observer, the primary reason for the belt was the USA Network itself. USA Network officials have reportedly been complaining for some time about the drop in ratings for RAW, in particular the third hour.

The network has continually pushed Vince McMahon to try and fix the third hour as this was always the highest rated, until recent years. The third hour dropped so bad in recent weeks that WWE officials recognized they had to do something.

USA officials have reportedly been sending WWE a lot of suggestions that one source close to the situation described as ‘terrible’, but the best of the bunch was the 24/7 Title and Vince had to take one of them.
