WrestleMania is fast approaching and for the first time in years we are set for a Divas title match that has meaning behind it. With the influx of NXT talent in the form of Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks and Charlotte – the quality of matches and programs in the division has dramatically improved.

It’s ironic that with the whole ‘Divas revolution’ not really being a thing anymore, there has been more investment in women’s wrestling on the main roster.

And one person who has played a crucial, dare I say underrated role in that has been Becky Lynch. Lynch received her WWE call-up on the same night where change was promised in the Divas division. She was joined by fellow NXT women Charlotte and Sasha Banks but despite getting the pin in the three-team Divas match at Summerslam, she was somewhat lost in the pack.

But with each team disbanded, she has thrived – particular in her feud with Charlotte. She has displayed a chunk of charisma and personality in various backstage skits and has become a hit with the WWE universe. Equally as strong in the ring as she is in promos, Becky outfoxed Ric Flair on the mic before her match with Charlotte at the Royal Rumble.

Becky Lynch is one of the most  likable babyfaces in the WWE

‘The Lass Kicker’ played her part in one of the better women’s programs we have seen on the main roster and put up a good fight in a losing effort. Lynch played the underdog role perfectly and had the crowd firmly behind her.

The post-match angle was a taste of what fans could expect going into WrestleMania as Sasha Banks returned, attacked Becky and seemingly sided with Charlotte before locking in the ‘Bank statement’ on her former NXT associate. It appeared as though a triple threat was the plan for the eagerly anticipated event in Dallas.

But WWE have gone in a slightly different route, holding off on the possible three-way for a brief period. This saw Charlotte defeat Brie Bella at Fast Lane while Becky and Sasha eventually agreed to form an alliance to take down Team BAD (Tamina and Naomi).

This week on Raw, Charlotte interrupted Sasha and Becky’s post-match celebrations and announced that the two would square off for the No.1 contendership for the Divas title. We later learned on Smackdown that the match will take place next week on Raw.

At present, Sasha Banks appears to be the primary choice to go for Charlotte’s title. She is an incredible performer who has nailed her gimmick and has so far been well-protected by the company.

‘The Boss’ consistently gets good reactions from the crowd – with “We want Sasha” chants a prominent feature in Divas matches.

But having seen her work in NXT, she is born to be a heel who dishes out punishment and then brings out the best in her opponent – a prime example being her stellar matches with Bayley at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn and then the Ironman match at NXT Takeover: Respect.

This will mean for a rather strange dynamic if it is Charlotte vs Sasha Banks at Wrestlemania and that is why Becky too should be in the mix.  A triple threat is the best possible option to showcase the talents of three of the company’s most talented female athletes on the grandest stage.

The trio’s styles meshed very well in NXT and it would be excellent to see them make a real statement at wrestling’s most decorated event.

As you can tell I am quite the fan of Becky Lynch. She is someone who seems to go under the radar but has all the traits to be a huge player in women’s wrestling. Her match with Sasha in NXT last year was incredible and really put her on the map.

Her unique look, obsession with puns and goofiness is combined with a real hard-hitting style in the ring. It would be a great shame for her to not have an important role in WrestleMania 32. Here’s hoping that WWE find a way to include one of their finest female talents in their WrestleMania plans.
