LOOKING TO ADD ANOTHER LEVEL OF PRESTIGE TO ONE OF THEIR BIGGEST NIGHTS OF THE YEAR, IMPACT WRESTLING ANNOUNCED YESTERDAY THAT INTERNATIONAL SENSATIONS DRAGO AND EL HIJO DEL FANTASMA WILL APPEAR AT SLAMMIVERSARY XV, FORMING AN ALLIANCE TO CHALLENGE LAX IN A CONTEST FOR THE IMPACT WRESTLING TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP.

The match will be a fatal four-way, with two other international tag teams competing. Those teams will be announced at a later date.

Drago and El Hijo del Fantasma come by way of AAA Lucha Libre Worldwide. The former is one of the most charismatic luchador’s on the planet, consistently headlining both AAA and Lucha Underground.  The latter is a second generation performer who has been plying his craft for seventeen years. El Hijo del Fantasma has also appeared on Lucha Underground, using the name King Cuerno.

Impact Wrestling and AAA announced earlier this year a talent exchange alliance that would see wrestlers appear on shows for both promotions.  As Impact Wrestling celebrates its 15th anniversary, and AAA celebrates its 25, both parties seem optimistic of what the future holds.

In an official press release, Chief Creative Officer Jeff Jarrett praised the two performers, and also hinted at this being the beginning of a strong working relationship.

“Slammiversary is 15 years in the making, and we are thrilled to have these two AAA stars be part of the show. I am sure the fans who have never seen them before will be so impressed”, Jarrett said in the release. “AAA has been a revolutionary wrestling promotion at the forefront of lucha libre wrestling in Mexico. We are looking forward to taking the working relationship between IMPACT Wrestling and AAA to the next level later this year, and fans can look forward to more collaborations between the two promotions through the rest of 2017, including Bound For Glory in November.”

Following Slammiversary, it appears the next date for the two promotions to work together will be TripleMania XXV, the biggest wrestling show of the year for AAA wrestling. Jarrett confirmed in the release that Impact Wrestling would indeed be on the card.

This year’s edition takes place on August 26th from Mexico City, and is headlined by Psycho Clown battling Dr. Wagner Jr. in a high stakes “mask VS mask” contest.

For his part, AAA owner Dorian Roldán seems excited not only for what Drago and El Hijo del Fantasma will bring to North America, but what the future holds for the two in this hopefully mutually beneficial partnership.

“I feel really proud to send Drago and Hijo del Fantasma to participate in this important show, that is IMPACT Wrestling’s 15th anniversary, not only for the importance of this promotion worldwide, but also because of the high quality entertainment they offer to thousands of people in each of their presentations, live and on TV”, he said in the jointly released statement. “I’m completely sure that AAA and IMPACT Wrestling have a long and bright future together, where great battles, and extremely intense matches will be achieved.”

Impact Wrestling Slammiversary XV airs live on Pay-Per-View Sunday, July 2nd.
