Commentators have a very important job to do in sports and sports entertainment.
The commentator plays a great role in involving the audience and telling a story as it unfolds. Since WWE is scripted it gives commentators a better chance to tell a story and keep the viewer’s attention on the underlying elements and side-stories.
WWE has seen great commentators and commentary teams. Sometimes the dynamic of a commentator duo can be more entertaining than the match itself/
While there have been great commentators like Jim Ross and Paul Heyman, some of the current commentators leave much to be desired.
With the announcement of Shawn Michaels guest appearance on commentary this Tuesday on SmackDown Live, we wonder how other wrestlers could make for great commentators. So here are five wrestlers we would like to see at commentary.
1. Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens can make a great transition into commentating. Owens is one of the best speakers of this era and to top it off, he has a lot of charisma. He is god-tier on the microphone and has taken his skills to the announcing table before. When Owens is upset or annoyed by something, his rant makes for great entertaining listen. Imagining him rant on about how a good wrestler keeps winning would be absolute gold. He would make for a great heel announcer and listening to him renounce and rebuke other commentators on the announcer’s desk would be hilarious.
2. Dean Ambrose

The maniacal former Dean Ambrose is known for being one of the best talkers in the industry and incorporating the lunatic fringe persona in his speeches. He has shown time and time again that he can pull off the character excellently without letting it get too stale, whether it’s in the ring or on the microphone.
The currently named Jon Moxley has been on commentary on several occasions before and has shown how funny and no-bullcrap he can be. The character would be entertaining to listen to and would add a much-needed change if we ever see him guest announce for a special match, preferably one of his former Shield brethren.
3. CM Punk

CM Punk is as far from wrestling as one can be but once he was also part of the commentator section on Raw. Punk proved how great a natural talker he is. He is one of the rare wrestlers who was a regular colour commentator for some time and was able to keep it fresh.
He made his martial arts commentary debut for cage Fury Fighting Championships in December 2018 which means he definitely has an interest for it. Maybe we can see him someday do wrestling commentary too?
4. The Miz

Miz is basically the best commentator on the roster, and he isn’t even a commentator. There is no need for me to talk about how great he is on the mic, Miz has let everyone know that himself. What I can talk about though, is his work on the commentator’s desk.
Whenever Miz has worked in a segment as a commentator, he has been able to bring much needed fresh air in it. He is able to put over each wrestler’s personality and actions while maintaining his cocky heel persona. He amps up everyone regardless of how good or bad they are. He is able to put others over while also reminding that he is better than them. I don’t know how anyone can hate this, Miz is just a pure heel who loves wrestling, and he should have no problems transitioning to a commentary role even.
5. Christian

One of my favourite wrestlers of all time, Christian, was very underutilized despite being great on the mic and in the ring. During his run in the WWE, Christian his shown how great he is at the mic. He played the heel character to perfection, and it was fun to hate on him. His top-notch mic skills helped him a lot.
He was able to play a great heel as well as a great face wrestler, which not many can do. His ability to cut promos was phenomenal and one of the most believable stars in the company.
Christian is one of the most underrated wrestlers not just on the mic but in general, period. Being done with wrestling, he is the co-host of E&C Pod of Awesomeness, and he’s shown how great he is to listen to. He can do the same thing on the announcer’s table, so why is he not a commentator already, WWE?
