Premier League: Arsenal vs Leeds
The reverse fixture saw Leeds miss a chance to beat ten-man Arsenal, following Nicolas Pepe’s red card.
I just cannot see a repeat result here. Arsenal’s defensive frailties remain unaddressed, while Leeds themselves throw so much forward they are vulnerable at the back.
There has to be goals.
Arsenal are likely to be without both Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey and that will be a massive blow. They are also winless in three and will be desperate for a win.
As for Leeds, they were excellent in a resounding win over Crystal Palace and they’ll need to step it up again to beat Arsenal.
I’d expect an open game with a fair few chances, and it could well come down to who is the most clinical in front of goal.
Prediction: 2-2
Premier League: Everton vs Fulham
Carlo Ancelotti will have some tired legs after their FA Cup tie against Tottenham had to be settled in extra-time, and that’s something at least for Fulham to latch on to.
A further bonus could be the absence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is the club’s top goalscorer this season.
Fulham need to capitalise on these kind of setbacks if they are to achieve the impossible and stay up.
Sadly, their winless run speaks volumes and even though they always give it a go, I just don’t see Everton slipping up.
Prediction: 1-0
Premier League: West Ham vs Sheffield United
This should be an interesting contest.
West Ham have been impressive in the league thus far, and are deservedly up in sixth place. Sheffield United, meanwhile, still sit bottom of the pile but they’ve been competitive in every game – even in defeat.
The home side will inevitably triumph but it will take something to completely down Chris Wilder’s side. For a side that remain bottom, they’ve not lost their spirit.
So long as West Ham can maintain their impressive form – how long will it last? – they’ll be too strong for the visitors.
Prediction: 2-1
Premier League: Chelsea vs Newcastle
Despite fighting against a series of first-half injuries to secure a precious 3-2 win over Southampton, the odds are once again stacking up against Newcastle.
They’ve lost Callum Wilson, their main goalscoring outlet, to injury, while defensive duo Fabian Schar and Javi Manquillo are also sidelined.
Newcastle have struggled when their resources have been depleted this season so it doesn’t bode well for them against a resurgent Chelsea side under new management.
Chelsea have conceded just once since Thomas Tuchel took charge, and even with Wilson in Newcastle’s side, I’d have expected that record to remain intact.
The attacking threat still needs fine tuning, but Tuchel will get there in time. A narrow win gets the job done in the meantime.
Prediction: 1-0
