New Japan Cup postponed as a result of Coronavirus outbreak

    New Japan Pro Wrestling have announced that all remaining shows that were meant for this years New Japan Cup have been cancelled.

    This decision was made on Tuesday acting under the recommendations laid out by a specialist government taskforce meeting. They had previously cancelled shows between March 1st to 15th, including this years anniversary show.

    This was announced in a statement on the New Japan website, in which they said:

    We apologise to fans who were looking forward to the remainder of the New Japan Cup. Ultimately, the health and safety of our fans, wrestlers and staff, as well as society at large is our utmost concern, and we will make announcements about events scheduled after March 22 upon careful monitoring of this developing situation

    The next set of cancelled events were:

    • Tuesday March 10, Okayama
    • Thursday March 12, Korakuen Hall
    • Friday March 13, Korakuen Hall
    • Saturday March 14, Chiba
    • Monday March 16, Toyama
    • Tuesday March 17, Saitama
    • Wednesday March 18, Shizuoka
    • Friday March 20, Niigata
    • Saturday March 21, Niigata

    There has been no word on whether the New Japan Cup has been cancelled or will be moved to later in the year.

    A host of shows in Japan from STARDOM, DDT and All Japan have either been cancelled or taken place behind closed doors.
