The ‘Aerial Assassin’ Will Ospreay signs a two year deal with New Japan Pro Wrestling.
It’s official. Will Ospreay, one of the biggest upcoming talents on the UK British Wrestling scene, has signed a contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling for two years. Will Ospreay is known for his high flying, aerial style and he has cited his wrestling idols as Ricochet and AJ Styles – both who he has faced in his short but stacked career.
After appearing at PROGRESS Wrestlings’ “Chapter Two: The March Of Progress” in 2012, he took on the UK indy scene and started to gain momentum, wrestling for; IPW, Revolution Pro Wrestling, Preston City Wrestling and Scottish Wrestling Alliance. He fought some of the biggest names in the UK such as Marty Scurll, El Ligero, Jimmy Havoc, Kenny Williams, Noam Dar and many more. He rose to the top of the ranks and even managed to win a place on the UK TNA Wrestling tour in January 2016, alongside British stars Big Damo and Jimmy Havoc.
He debuted in New Japan in the stable ‘Chaos’ (formed by Shinsuke Nakamura and Toru Yano) on March 3, 2016, Ospreay challenged Kushida to an IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship match at Invasion Attack 2016 which he lost. After the match it was confirmed that Ospreay, 22 from Essex UK, had signed a contract and will become a regular in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
The Best of the Super Juniors (often abbreviated BOSJ) is New Japans’ annual tournament held in May or June. The wrestlers are typically junior heavyweight wrestlers from promotions all over the world. Some of the winners’ of past rounaments have included Finn Balor (Prince Devitt), Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger, Ricochet, and most recently in 2015, Kushida.
