AEW BEAT NXT IN THE RATINGS ONCE MORE
The numbers are in, and for the fourth straight week AEW have come out on top. This week saw the new promotion more than double the advantage they enjoyed the week before, moving from 66,000 in front, to beating NXT by 148,000 viewers.
AEW averaged 901,000 viewers, while NXT managed 753,000. Both promotions enjoyed growth over the previous week, total viewers increased from 1.48 million to 1.65 million. This was also the third straight week where Wednesday night wrestling as a whole has enjoyed an increase in viewers, which is the longest positive stretch of time so far this year.
AEW now leads NXT by 27 to 5.
EXCALIBUR EXPECTED TO RETURN AUGUST 26
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, Excalibur is supposed to be returning to the AEW commentary desk August 26.
Early last week footage resurfaced from a PWG show in the early 2000s. In the footage, Excalibur can be heard using a racial slur. He reportedly apologised for the language after the event. Although some have been quick to point out that the angle was arranged by the promotion, it is important to note that Excalibur was one of the founders and owners. Neither Excalibur nor AEW has addressed the situation publicly. Taz has been filling in the commentary desk.

Well Dax, you know I have mad respect for you & @CashWheelerFTR
I can assure you that @IMPACTWRESTLING supports making it happen
How about a home & home series between FTR and #TheNorth?
@OfficialEGO & @Walking_WeaponHey Le Champion, @IAmJericho how do we make this happen
— Scott D'Amore (@ScottDAmore) August 7, 2020
Scott D’Amore, Executive Vice President of Impact Wrestling, has been openly talking about setting up an inter-promotion match between Impact’s The North, and AEW’s FTR.
The exchange took place on Twitter and began innocently between members of FTR and The North:
Dax Harwood: Real quick; this is what makes us a great tag team. Not fancy double teams. Not 30-second sequences. Keeping the fresh man in, using your partner, knowing where each other is at all times, feeding him & he executes. That’s all. Back to the ice!
Ethan Page: This is why we need to work …. ASAP
Dax: I’m begging ya! We need to talk to our bosses.
Scott D’Amore: Well Dax, you know I have mad respect for you & @CashWheelerFTR I can assure you that @IMPACTWRESTLING supports making it happen How about a home & home series between FTR and #TheNorth? @OfficialEGO & @Walking_Weapon Hey Le Champion, @IAmJericho how do we make this happen
Cash Wheeler: Get our numbers from The Good Brothers..
Scott: We respect all contractual relationships so if your bosses will come to the table let’s get it done
