NXT General Manager, William Regal announced at this weeks set of NXT tapings that the main event of NXT Takeover 7 will pit NXT Women’s Champion Bayley against former champion Sasha Banks in a 30-minute Iron-Man Match.
This monumental announcement marks two “firsts” for professional wrestling. Firstly, it’s the first time in WWE history that female superstars have main-evented a special or “PPV”. But perhaps even bigger than that, it also marks the first ever female Iron Man Match not only in WWE history but the first time in any major wrestling organisation.
Bayley defeated Sasha Banks for the Championship at last month’s NXT Takeover: Brooklyn event in what many are calling a match of the year candidate. Hoards of fans voiced their opinion that the match should have closed out the show, as the general consensus was that it was the best match of the night.
WWE COO Triple H confirmed the news on Twitter stating:

The event takes place live on the WWE Network on October 7th. The show will also include the finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament.
