Hardy had announced he was a ‘free agent’ over the weekend
World Wrestling Entertainment have confirmed that Matt Hardy’s contract has expired.
In a statement on the WWE website, they have said;
Matt Hardy’s contract with WWE has expired.
WWE thanks Matt Hardy for his contributions to sports-entertainment and the WWE Universe and wishes him the best in his future endeavors.
Rumours of Hardy’s departure has been rumoured for weeks, with many assuming he will be heading to All Elite Wrestling to be revealed as The Dark Order’s ‘Exalted One’.
Hardy was written off of WWE television two weeks ago after Randy Orton hit an already injured Matt with a con-chair-to on the stairs.
Matt Hardy returned to WWE at Wrestlemania 33, where he won the RAW Tag Team Titles with his brother Jeff. He also won the SmackDown Tag Titles and a second reign as Raw champions with Bray Wyatt, under his ‘Woken’ persona.
His release follows a video posted late Sunday evening where Matt Hardy talked about his contract status. He said that his contract was set to expire on March 1st and has opted to let his contract expire and become a free agent. He stated that WWE was his home and was treated well, and he can’t say enough good things about the company.
