Monday Night War: Have a Nice Day!

The final thing I would suggest to anyone in the UK who plans to sign up for the WWE Network on November 3rd is from the Original Series “Monday Night War.” This series has many episodes that take a documentary approach to certain topics in the late 90’s war between WWF Monday Night RAW and WCW Monday Nitro as a war for rating supremacy and quite possibly the jobs of many Superstars were on the line.

All of the episodes in this Series so far have been amazing, but the one that truly stuck out to me was the one that focused on how just one night and one mistake by a WCW commentator cost WCW the opportunity to win the war and actually beat WWF. It was the night that Mick Foley won the WWF Championship on RAW and Tony Schiavone spoiled the show on Nitro in a way of disgust towards Mick. It not only talks about that one night, however. It also reflects on Foley’s rise to get to that level, including his days in WCW and ECW as Cactus Jack, his early days in the WWF feuding with the Undertaker as Mankind, and even his most memorable match which was also with Undertaker inside the Hell in a Cell, where Undertaker threw Foley off the Cell and through the announce table.

What I liked about this episode is that it acknowledges that Foley is the main reason WWF beat WCW in the ratings, as when people watching Nitro found out he would win the WWF Championship, it gave people that “No, that won’t happen” feeling and made them want to witness it. I also like that it acknowledged how Foley’s antics developed a Hardcore style to the WWE that was not currently being seen in WCW, which would also leave WCW behind. This is arguably the best episode of the entire series, but as I said, all episodes thus far have been great and have left me wanting more.

If you can get the chance, check out all episodes (or documentaries) of all three of these Series, and don’t forget that you still have access to EVERY WWE, WCW, and ECW pay-per-view in HISTORY. Meaning if you wanted, you could watch every WrestleMania event back-to-back-to-back-to-back and you only have to pay $9.99. Enjoy, you won’t regret spending that ten dollars.
