Joey Ryan is certainly an interesting character, and not one any of us would associate with WWE.
The idea of having a man who tosses opponents around the ring with his penis on WWE TV may have excited Vince McMahon 20 years ago, but with all of the sponsorships WWE has today, we can’t imagine that would go down too well with the shareholders.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has reported that WWE have reached out to Ryan and his representatives about a move down to Orlando to work with NXT. They’ve obviously seen him on Being The Elite and are committed to trying to stop any more talent heading to AEW if possible. His Lucha Underground contract has now expired, so he’s a free agent, and WWE have expressed interest in the self-reputed King Of Sleaze.
“Ryan was not given an official offer as of earlier in the week but they contacted him after getting word he was a free agent when the word was out that he was let out of his LU contract, and asked if he was willing to move to Orlando, wrestle a few years there and then move into a coaching position.”
It would certainly be an interesting change in Ryan’s character – The King Of Sleaze would definitely not go down well with the top brass of WWE, so you’d have to wonder how they would use Ryan. Also worth noting is that a usual NXT salary is nowhere near what Ryan takes home each year on the independent circuit.
Stay tuned for more information, we’ll be updating this story if and when we hear any more news.
