1996 – In Your House XII: It’s Time
Next year’s show isn’t that fondly remembered either but upon closer inspection it has some rather good action. Triple H and Marc Mero have a decent bout, The Armageddon Rules bout between The Undertaker and The Executioner (a past-it Terry Gordy) was a refreshing change of pace for the company at the time and Davey Boy Smith and Owen Hart even manage to drag the fake Diesel and Razor Ramon paring to a respectable match. But my choice is the opener between Too Cold Scorpio and Al Snow. Or as they were know then, Flash Funk and Leif Cassidy. Neither gimmick was the best period of their respective careers but off hand I can’t recall many better matches that either man had in their WWE careers. There are moonsaults, springboard somersaults, over-the-top-rope dives and plenty of other moves commentator Vince McMahon wouldn’t know the names of. If this was Too Cold Scorpio vs Al Snow in ECW people would be raving about it to this day. Ignore the daft gimmicks and costumes, watch the action and you’ll be raving about it too.
