2000 – Armageddon

I forget most of what else was on the card (other than the fact that the Chris Jericho and Kane Last Man Standing Match being set up after an argument over a cup of coffee backstage) but this had a VERY memorable main event. Now I know that some think the six man Hell in a Cell is a cluster that’s not worthy of much but sometimes wrestling doesn’t have to be about the minute technical details. This match had five of the biggest stars of the past twenty years (Angle, Austin, HHH, Undertaker and Rock) in there together along with Rikishi who despite not having any real long-term stardom was undeniably over at this point.

(That raises another point about the WWE today choosing every reason NOT to push someone who gets over of their own volition rather than just going with it as long as it lasts. But that’s another story).

It’s even more of a mess in some senses as Vince McMahon, The Stooges and Mick Foley all have extra-curricular run-in’s but if you want a match that pretty much encapsulates everything that was good AND bad about the Attitude Era in half an hour or so, this is the place.
