Punk was conspicuous in his absence in RAW and it had a lot of people wondering if he was either selling his injuries from the Royal Rumble or something more serious was happening. Little did we know that he had reportedly told Vince McMahon that he’d had enough and was going home. What this means is completely hearsay up to this point but it does mean that everybody is an expert on his decision going forward.

Lots of people are suggesting it is all part of a bigger storyline going forward. Other people are suggesting his departure has led to plans of Triple H against Punk being changed to Daniel Bryan now facing off with probably the most unpopular man, barring Batista, in the WWE right now.

Will Punk be headed to TNA or ROH? I think we really have to take a breath and let the possible news sink in before we start asking questions like this. I personally don’t think Punk would even entertain an offer from TNA. You also have to consider that Cabana left ROH under bad circumstances and we know how loyal of a friend Punk is. Again though, I am simply speculating.

The timing of his decision also seems odd. He recently did an interview with Ariel Helwani where he discussed his contract running out in July, he simply said, “I don’t know, it’s all up in the air”. The interview took place on the Friday before the Royal Rumble and I imagine Punk had already made his mind up by that point.

He also discussed the WWE Network and whilst he thought it was a brilliant deal for the fans, he wasn’t sure how it would affect his pay going forward. This is interesting because we are less than two months away from WrestleMania, traditionally the biggest payday of the wrestling year. Under normal circumstances you’d imagine that Punk would stick around for that very reason. Did Punk think it wasn’t going to be worth it this year? Or is the answer much simpler than that.

CM Punk has been wrestling since 2000. He lives a straight edge lifestyle and has taken very few breaks from professional wrestling. He fractured his skull in 2002 and was out of the ring for a total time of just over 2 months. Punk made his way to the WWE roster in 2006 and didn’t suffer an injury until 2010. Even during this time he was on the road with WWE. The longest period of time Punk has been away from WWE was earlier this year when he took 2 months off the road.

The time has come for Punk to take a break from professional wrestling so he can finally recharge his batteries. Will he return to WWE? I don’t know. Is this all part of a storyline? I don’t know. All I do know is that if Punk has left, it leaves a huge hole in the company and raises even more questions about the direction of the WWE.
